An engagement is a couple announcing that their story has a future. The natural gift is the story so far, told properly: how they met, the near misses, the moment it became inevitable, written as chapters with the two of them as the leads.

It lands differently from champagne because it is evidence. Somebody sat with the details of how these two found each other and made a book out of it. Between the proposal and the wedding there is a long stretch of planning and seating charts; a serial arriving through it is a running reminder of what the spreadsheet is for.

The interview takes about ten minutes, and the first chapter arrives within a day of you choosing a premise, because a person reads every chapter before it is delivered. If you are buying against a date, give yourself a couple of days of margin.
Can it end with the proposal?
It can end wherever you like: the proposal, the wedding that has not happened yet, or somewhere entirely invented. It is a story, not a transcript, and you steer it chapter by chapter.
Can a friend give this?
Yes. You buy it, the couple answers the interview and sets the heat themselves, and what they share is never shown to you. The gift is the frame; the story is theirs.
Who reads what they share?
